Programs

Pre-Law Services coordinates two ongoing programs to foster connections between undergraduate students and individuals in the legal field. In addition to these programs, there are many events available on an ongoing basis that are open to all undergraduate students and alumni. Pre-Law Services is also available for individual consultation to assist with developing connections to the legal field beyond these programs. Learn more in a drop-in or individual appointment!

Law Student Mentor Program

Each semester, pre-law undergraduate students are paired with law students from the University of Minnesota’s Law School. There are limited mentors available, and priority is given to those approaching graduation. The program includes a kickoff event, 3 meetings with a law student mentor, and other opportunities such as panel discussions with attorneys or law firm visits.

Applications are sent via the pre-law newsletter at the beginning of each semester.

Judicial Branch Externship Program

This application based program pairs students with judges from Ramsey County. Through a 4-day externship over winter break, students observe several court cases, interact with judges, attorneys, and other court staff, and connect individually with a Judge to learn about their rulings and decision-making process. This process gives an opportunity for a deeper exploration of the legal field, individual mentoring, and assists in their exploration of the legal field.

Applications are shared via the pre-law newsletter in mid-October.
